Within the Intervention "Celebration Rocket", which thematized Gorizia's/Nova Gorica's 1000th Anniversary, a second Eu-Outerborderline Badminton took place. Again a significant and sensitive point in the city was selected: the Piazza Transalpina, where the border has divided the city since 1947. At the square in front of the train station (now serving the Slovenian Trainline) the European Union border is manifested - almost cynically - by a flimsy two-meter-high metal gardenfence, transposing Slovenia and Italy into incidental neighbours, and mocking the persistent fears and resultant limitations. Precisely at midnight on New Year's Eve 2000/01 The EU-Outerborderlinebadminton game began. The players on both sides of the border, the glowing orange stars, propelled the shuttlecock across the border 47 times during 60 minutes period, setting a new world record. |
